HHS Secretary Announces 12 Communities Selected to Advance Use of Electronic Health Records in First Ever National Demonstration

HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt today named 12 communities that will participate in a national Medicare demonstration project that provides incentive payments to physicians for using certified electronic health records (EHR) to improve the quality of patient care. The five-year, first-of-its-kind project is expected to improve the quality of care provided to an estimated 3.6 million Americans. Read more...

Louisiana Chosen as One of Only 12 Electronic Health Records Project Sites by Federal Government

Baton Rouge, LA – Governor Bobby Jindal and Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Secretary Alan Levine were joined today by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael O. Leavitt to announce that Louisiana has been chosen as one of 12 sites for implementation of a five-year CMS demonstration project that encourages small- to mediumsized primary care physician practices to use electronic health records (EHR) to improve the quality of patient care. The total project reimbursements for participating practitioners could equal $29 million during the five-year period. A small- to medium-sized primary care physician practice is defined as one with 20 or fewer medical doctors. Read more...
