Senate Fails to Stop 10.6 Percent Medicare Payment Reduction The Senate voted on HR 6331, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act, at 8:20 p.m. on June 26.
The vote failed, 58 to 40. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid voted "no" in order to bring the bill up again.
The Senate reconvened this morning (June 27) and recessed later today. The House is now in recess until Monday, July 7. Congress had to send the president a bill that he can sign by Monday, June 30, or the Medicare payment rate will drop by 10.6 percent.
Louisiana's United States Senator Mary Landrieu voted for the measure to stop the payment reduction. It would be appropriate for LAFP members to follow-up with a call or note of thanks to Senator Landrieu for her support.
This means the 10.6 percent reduction will go into effect July 1.
