National Provider Identifier (NPI) Effective Date is May 23rd

Beginning May 23rd, Medicaid claims and all X-12 electronic transactions, such as e-MEVS (270-271) will be rejected or denied if the transactions do not contain the NPI number.

If your NPI is registered with Louisiana Medicaid you should immediately start billing your NPI along with your Louisiana Medicaid number on all electronic claims. You are currently receiving educational edits on your Remittance Advice (RA) if the NPI is missing or there are discrepancies with the NPI reported. Special attention should be
paid to these edits because on and after May 23, 2008 these edits will become denials or rejects. Only the NPI number will be accepted beginning May 23, 2008. Providers should ensure their submitters can submit and receive the NPI. For more information visit the Louisiana Medicaid website.
