Attention LAFP Students & Residents: Sign Up to Participate in the LAFP Foundation Research Poster Contest
A Call for Posters is being issued for presentation at the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians 2008 Annual Assembly and Exhibition. We are particularly interested in practice-based research, but presentations may address any topic relevant to Family Medicine. Work in progress may be submitted. Submissions must be of original work not yet published or presented at regional or national meetings The research must be of interest and educational value to the specialty of Family Medicine and conducted by a Louisiana Family Medicine resident or a Louisiana medical student. PLEASE NOTE: ONLY LAFP STUDENT OR RESIDENT MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED TO SUBMIT A POSTER PRESENTATION.
Submission Format
COVER SHEET - One cover sheet should be completed for each submission.
ABSTRACT - Three (3) copies of an abstract of your research should be submitted. The abstract should be no longer than 250 words.
SYNOPSIS - Three (3) copies of a one (1) page synopsis or description of your work should be submitted. NOTE - Submissions should have no identifying material or information except on the cover sheet.
Costs & Specifications
There is no exhibiting fee for poster presentations. Poster presentations are should be designed to fit on one 4' x 6' board. No identifying material (researchers name, etc) can be displayed on the poster. Posters must be displayed no later than 8:00 am on Thursday, July 3, 2008. The posters will be on display from 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. daily, Thursday, July 3 thru Saturday, July 5, 2008 . Dedicated hours are from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. daily. You must be present and staff your poster during dedicated hours.
Staffing
The senior presenter must be the author of the work on which the poster is based or the person responsible for the content, arrangement and presentation of the data in the poster. The senior presenter is required to be in attendance at the Assembly and in charge of the poster presentation. If this is not possible, the senior presenter is expected to inform the LAFP promptly. The senior presenter shall be responsible for seeing that all rules and regulations have been explained to everyone who will be staffing the poster.
On-site Judging & Awards for Posters (Residents and Medical Students)
The Subcommittee will judge the effectiveness of the poster, the content of the research project, and the presentation skills of the presenter. Residents and medical students will give a three-minute oral presentation during the judging. Review will focus on the following:
- Significance of findings for practicing family physicians.
- Quality of presentation of findings.
- Quality of methods used to generate findings.
A $100 cash prize and ribbon for first-place and $50 cash prize and ribbon for second place, along with ribbons for third place will be awarded to the senior presenter in the family medicine resident and medical student poster categories. These awards will be presented during the Awards and Installation Dinner on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 7:00 pm. Note: Poster presenters must be present during judging times. Judging times will be determined at a later date and presenters will be notified.
