2008 Congressional Conference Synopsis
The 2008 Family Medicine Congressional Conference (FMCC) was held Monday-Tuesday, May 19-20, in Washington, D.C. Sponsored by AAFP and the Academic Family Medicine Advocacy Alliance (AFMAA), the FMCC educates participants on family medicine’s legislative priority issues, trains attendees on how to lobby on Capitol Hill and allows participants to put these skills to use with federal legislators and their staff. Colorectal Cancer Screening Pilot Program
Louisiana currently has the second highest colorectal cancer mortality rate per capita in the nation. Additionally, colorectal cancer is the second deadliest form of cancer. An estimated 2,500 Louisianans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2008 and approximately 960 Louisiana residents will die from this disease this year. Read more...

CMS to Conduct Spring 2008 LIS Outreach Campaign
CMS is launching a 2008 Spring LIS Campaign to increase awareness and applications submitted to SSA for the Medicare Part D low-income subsidy (LIS). This special outreach will be aimed at individuals without Medicare Part D coverage who may potentially qualify for the LIS. For those who qualify, Medicare can pay 75% or more of their prescription drug costs. Most will get 95% covered. This can mean big savings for people who are paying for all their drug costs out of pocket. Read more...
