LAFP Foundation Celebrates National Doctor’s Day March 30
The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians Foundation will observe National Doctor’s Day on Monday, March 30. Everyday, in Louisiana and across the country, family physicians make a difference in the lives of their patients and the communities they serve – particularly those underserved in urban, rural and special needs communities.
LAFP members can join the Doctor’s Day celebration by making a charitable gift to the LAFP Foundation in honor or in memory of a family physician colleague or mentor whose guidance and/or encouragement positively impacted your career. These connections to the core values of family medicine and to its practitioners are at the heart of increasing access to quality healthcare for every citizen.
The LAFP Foundation offers secure online donations by completing the online contribution form. Simply complete the appropriate gift information and be sure to type "Doctor’s Day" in the instruction box. Doctor’s Day donations can also be made by e-mail; telephone 225.923.3313 or by mailing your contribution to National Doctor’s Day, LAFP Foundation, 919 Tara Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806.

National Doctor’s Day is set aside as a time to celebrate doctors, their commitment to easing human pain and history making advances in medicine. It also marks the anniversary of the first use of ether anesthetic for surgery by Dr. Crawford W. Long of Jefferson, Ga. The first observation of Doctor’s Day was in 1933 in Winder, Ga., and on Oct. 30, 1990, President George H. W. Bush signed a resolution designating every March 30 as National Doctor’s Day.
LAFP Foundation is a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt public foundation and is the only charitable organization in Louisiana that exists to improve and increase access to healthcare by investing in the specialty of family medicine.
