The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians is the state's largest
primary care medical specialty society. Family physicians are unique
because they are trained and qualified to treat up to 90 percent of all
conditions and care for all family members: men, women, the elderly, and
children of all ages.
President
David Euans, MD
David Euans, MD, is the Residency Director at East Jefferson General Hospital Family Practice Residency
Program and a
Clinical Associate Professor at Tulane University Medical
Center, School of Medicine, Department of Family and Community Medicine.
He is a 1974 graduate of University of Michigan School of Medicine in
Ann
Arbor, MI. Dr. Euans completed his residency in Family Practice at Moses
H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Dr. Euans has received the
Degree of
Fellow of American Academy of Family Physicians as well as served as a
Diplomat to the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is also a
Diplomat to the American Board of Family Practice
and has received the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric
Medicine.
Dr. Euans is an active member of the American Academy of Family
Physicians, the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians and the Louisiana
State Medical Society.
President-Elect
Mark Dawson, MD
Mark Dawson, MD, MBA, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family
Medicine in the Family Practice Residency Program based at Lake Charles
Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, La. He oversees Pediatrics and Pain
Management in the Family Practice Residency Program at Lake Charles
Memorial Hospital in the LSUHSC School of Medicine's Department of
Family Medicine. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University School
of Medicine-New Orleans. He completed a Family Medicine residency at
W.O. Moss Regional Hospital in Lake Charles, La., and a pediatrics
residency at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge. Dr. Dawson is
certified by the American Board of Family Practice and the American
Board of Pediatrics. In addition, he has a master's in business
administration from LSU, adding knowledge of business to the residency
program.
Dr. Dawson is married with four daughters and enjoys LSU basketball and equestrian sports.

Bryan Picou, MD
Bryan Picou, MD, is Family Physician who has been practicing in Natchitoches since 1988 as owner of the Family Medical Clinic of Natchitoches. Dr. Picou attended medical school at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA, and completed his residency at E.A. Conway Hospital in Monroe, LA, where he served as Chief Resident in from 1987-1988. He presently serves as a Preceptor for LSU Medical School New Orleans, Tulane Medical School and LSUHSC-Shreveport. He accepts students at all levels with in these schools. Dr. Picou has been a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians since 1985 and received the AAFP Degree of Fellow in 1996. Dr. Picou has served on the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians' Operations Committee as well as was a founding member of the LaFamPac. In 2006, Dr. Picou was elected as LAFP President and in 2007, served as LAFP Foundation President. Dr. Picou is presently an Alternate Delegate to the AAFP Congress.
Dr. Picou is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society, and the Natchitoches Parish Medical Society in which he served as President from 1998-2004. Dr. Picou is marred to Marguerite "Cissy" Picou, MD, in which he shares his private practice with. The Picou's also have three children and one grandchild.

Brian Elkins, MD
Dr Elkins is a 1992 Magna Cum
Laude graduate of LSU. His medical education was at LSUHSC-Shreveport
1992-1996. He was awarded membership in
Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr Elkins was an outstanding resident
and served as chief resident at In His Image Family Practice Residency in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He became a member of the LSUHSC-Shreveport Family Medicine Residency in
Alexandria in 1999. As the physician for the Rapides
Children’s Advocacy
Center, he has examined
approximately 100 children for child abuse. At LSU-Shreveport Family Medicine
Residency Program in Alexandria
he became Associate Program Director in 2002 and Program Director in 2005. He
is active in the medical staff of Rapides
Regional Medical
Center. He is presently a
member of the Medical Executive Committee and chairs the Performance
Improvement Committee and Medical Records Committee.
Dr Elkins has an active private
life. He is a deacon in his church, is a tenor in the Red River Chorale, and is
an avid runner. He and his lovely wife Barbara are raising 4 children. The most
recent addition, Faith, was adopted from an orphanage in China.

Herbert Muncie, MD
Herbert L. Muncie Jr., MD, is a Professor of Family Medicine and
Director of the Section of Predoctoral Education in the Department of
Family Medicine. After completing a bachelor's degree in pre-med at the
University of Georgia, Dr. Muncie received his MD from the Medical
College of Georgia in 1971. He completed a Family Medicine residency at
University of Maryland Hospital, where he served as chief resident, as
well as a fellowship in Family Medicine. He is board-certified in Family
Medicine and Addiction Medicine, with a certificate of added
qualifications in Geriatrics. Before joining the LSU faculty, Dr.
Muncie served as Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at the
University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Immediate Past President
Alan LeBato, MD
Dr. LeBato is an Assistant Professor
of Family Medicine and Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at
Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, La. He is a 1983 graduate of
LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport. He completed his residency at the W.O.
Moss Regional Family Practice Residency, where he served as chief resident in
his third year. Dr. LeBato has been active in the American Academy of Family
Physicians and is a Diplomate and Fellow of the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. LeBato worked in private
practice for 14 years, and his practice in Sulphur, La., encompassed the full
range of a family physician, including obstetrics, endoscopy, and other
procedures. Dr. LeBato became program director in 1997 and continues to maintain
private patients in the LSU Family Practice Center and teach procedural skills
to residents.
He is past president of the
Calcasieu Parish Medical Society and the West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital and
Lake Charles Memorial Hospital staff. He is a member of the President's Council
Advisory Board for Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Dr. LeBato is married with three children and
enjoys tennis, jogging, hunting, and fishing.
