White Coat Day

alt2012 White Coat Day at the Capitol

The 2012 Legislative Health Fair and White Coat Day at the Capitol proved to continue to be another valuable and successful day for the LAFP! With the resident members setting up in the morning for the Legislative Health Fair, active members were able to testify and listen to important issues in the Committee hearings. The House and Senate then moved into session after lunch allowing for another crowd for our health fair and another chance to discuss issues facing Family Doctors today. With so many members wanting to have their voice heard, we did not leave until after 5 pm!

The following screenings were offered:
  • Body Mass Index- LSUHSC Shreveport at Alexandria Family Medicine Residency Program
  • Anemia Screening- LSUHSC-New Orleans at Kenner Family Medicine Residency Program
  • Glucose Screening- East Jefferson Family Medicine Residency
  • Blood Pressure Screening- LSUHSC New Orleans at Lake Charles Family Medicine Residency Program.
  • Cholesterol Screening- Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program
  • The American Cancer Society was also on hand to talk about the importance of Cancer Screenings!
East Jefferson Residents ReadyThe day began in the rotunda of the Capitol Building with the LAFP setting up information about the LAFP and the LAFP Foundation including displaying the posters that were collected from the 2012 Tar Wars State Poster Contest. Between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., LAFP members in their white coats showed up ready to mingle with the legislators. The East Jefferson Residents, looking very professional, are pictured left.

The next couple of hours were packed full of active members sitting in on important Committee hearings, some even testifying, while resident members mingled and manned the health fair booths- which stayed busy all day! The theme in the air was Family Medicine, and everyone felt it.
Anemia Screening Pictured  right, Kenner Residency Program offerd anemia testing along with information on what your anemia reading means!

I speak for the entire LAFP staff when i say that we received messages of appreciation, thanks and support.

Once again, the LAFP has decided White Coat Day to be one of the most important days of the year and hopefully we will continue to make it successful in the years to come. If you have never participated in White Coat Day at the Capitol and/or the Health Fair, we strongly urge you to participate in 2013 or ask member who have what it is all about!
