Mission and Purpose

The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians Foundation, supports educational and scientific initiatives of family medicine to improve the health of all Louisianans. Through the generous contributions of members, corporations and friends, the Foundation is able to raise and distribute funds for medical student scholarships to future family physicians, for research, for family medicine student interest group activities at medical schools in Louisiana and for family medicine resident activities.


The vision of LAFP Foundation is to strengthen and enhance family and community medicine in Louisiana. This is accomplished through the growing array of programs we carry out and pursue. The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was originally founded to provide scholarships to worthy medical students. As the specialty of family medicine grows, so does the vision of the Foundation. The purpose of the LAFP Foundation is to establish and administer programs that strengthen and enhance family and community medicine. The Foundation supports activities which encourage medical students to pursue family medicine as their intended specialty and supports research activities in family medicine which ultimately may result improved patient care and enhance communication between family physicians and the community.
