2010 - 2011 Louisiana Poster Contest Winners
Louisiana Tar Wars conducts a poster contest every academic year. All fourth and fifth grade students who have participated in the classroom presentations are eligible to enter the Tar Wars anti-tobacco poster contest. Each school can submit their posters to the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) for the regional poster contests. Posters are judged on creativity, artistry, originality and the ability to communicate a clear and positive message about remaining tobacco free. Below are the winners from the 2010 - 2011 academic year.
Honorable Mention was awarded to Maddie Juneau a 5th grader from Cottonport Louisiana. Maddie's theme was "A Happy World Is A Tobacco Free World" Pictured on the left is Maddie receiving her award from James Campbell, MD during the award ceremony on the steps of the State Capitol.
Third Place was awarded to Sean Grappe from Natchitoches, Louisiana. Sean's theme was "Choo-Choose Not To Do Tobacco"
Second Place was awarded to Olivia Grace Williams from Alexandria, Louisiana. Olivia won first place in the 2009 - 2010 Louisiana Poster contest and was a finalist in this years 2010 - 2011! Olivia's theme was "Healthy Ever After"
First place went to Katheryn Young of Pitkin, Louisiana. Katheryn Tar Wars theme was "Have a Winning Smile... Or Not"
Katheryn and her family attended the Tar Wars National Conference in Washington DC. Katheryn along with other state-level winners competed for the national title in the Tar Wars National Poster Contest. Thanks to Katheryn, Louisiana walked away with a Special Recognition. Tar Wars Louisiana would like to thank Katheryn and her family for representing us. In addition to the poster contest, the Young family also had the opportunity to tour the Capitol, meet and greet with Senators Mary Landrieu and David Vitter and voice her opinion on tobacco use and tobacco legislation.
