Student Membership Coordinator

Position Description
As the Student Membership Coordinator, your main responsibility is to inform other medical students on your campus about the specialty of family medicine and about the great benefits and services of being a student member of the AAFP and the LAFP. This is done by attending student orientations, handing out issues of the American Family Physician journal, having student membership applications and materials available and hanging posters in student commons areas. Student Membership Coordinators also work closely with their Family Medicine Interest Group to help increase the number of student members at their respective schools throughout the academic year.

Recruitment Resources
Each Coordinator will receive a Student Membership Coordinator kit with student applications, Explore Family Medicine brochures, Family Medicine FAQ's, brochures, copies of AFP, student membership static cling poster, and AAFP pens.

Student Membership Incentive
Each Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) that increases AAFP Student Membership on its campus will be awarded incentives to be used at its discretion.

Incentive #1
Received AAFP Student Membership Applications (2008/2009 academic year):

25 student applications = $50
50 student applications = $75
75 student applications = $100
100 student applications = $150

Incentive #2
Increased AAFP Student Membership on your campus (2008/2009 academic year):

By 50% = $100
By 100% = $200

Communication

To help each Student Membership Coordinator keep informed on their recruitment numbers, they will receive monthly email updates. Each update informs the coordinator on their number of new members and total number of AAFP student members at their school. The updates allow them to see how effective their recruitment efforts are and learn if they are reaching a benchmark number for a prize.

Timeline
The timeline for the Student Membership Coordinator position is from May through the following April (academic school year). The number of new student members that are recruited during this time is counted when determining recruitment numbers for incentives.
