LAFP Initiatives

Learn about LAFP efforts on behalf of family physicians and their patients.

Major purposes of the Academy include:
  • Advocating for family physicians to lawmakers, organized medicine and the public;
  • Providing high-quality continuing medical education to physicians in Louisiana;
  • Keeping members informed of changes in health care; and
  • Nurturing the next generation of family physicians.
Advocacy: Each legislative session the LAFP staff are hard at work promoting legislation to help Family Medicine and opposing that which does not. We are your voice to the lawmakers. Click here to view our legislative priorities.

CME: The LAFP offers live CME through out the year designed by family physicians for family physicians. Each year the LAFP plans the Annual Members Assembly which is the the largest offering of live CME for members produced by the LAFP. Beginning in 2011, the LAFP is offering Journal CME in the quarterly magazine The Louisiana Family Doctor. Click here for a list of upcoming CME opportunities.

Keeping Members Informed: The LAFP constantly updates the website, www.lafp.org, to be your one-stop-shop for the most updated information available. In addition to the website, the LAFP sends a Weekly Family Medicine Update e-Newsletter every Tuesday, a quarterly journal The Louisiana Family Doctor and blast emails as needed.  Soon members will also be able to follow us on Facebook where we will post updates and receive feedback from members to allow for discussion!

The Future Family Physicians: Through the LAFP Foundation, we are able to hold programs to encourage medical students to attend Family Medicine residency programs AND then encourage residents to stay and practice in Louisiana. As everyone knows, there is a shortage of family doctors in Louisiana, the LAFP Foundation's goal is to address and correct this problem. Click here for other Foundation initiatives.
