CME Resources
Continuing medical education (CME) is a cornerstone of
the American Academy of Family
Physicians (AAFP), and has been a requirement for continuing membership
since the founding of this organization in 1947. CME for the family physician
is emphasized because the responsibility for providing comprehensive and
continuing health care to patients carries with it the responsibility to
continue learning. The need to keep abreast of the rapid expansion of medical
knowledge necessitates CME. CME Records and Reporting
Provided by the American Academy of Family Physicians
(AAFP), members can view their CME record and report their CME on this
interactive section of the AAFP Web site. For continued membership, AAFP/LAFP
members must participate in and report 150 credits of Continuing Medical
Education every three years. At least 75 of these must be prescribed
credits approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians. You must
also have 25 credits of CME in group activities. The rest of the credits
may be elective or prescribed hours. Reporting your credits as you
complete them will ensure that you do not forget an activity when it
comes time for re-election.
There are several ways you can report credits:
