Communications

The Louisiana Academy of Family Physician’s has developed several Communications Activities and Tools to help keep you informed and on top of changes both on a state and a national level. We also strive to keep you updated regarding CME opportunities and upcoming meetings. Take advantage of these media   offerings and feel free to submit articles or events that you would like to share with the LAFP  membership!

The LAFP Website contains information, both interesting and beneficial, to all family physicians, residents and medical students. The Website is divided into the following categories: Members, CME & Events, Physician Resources, News & Publications,  Advocacy, About us and Foundation. The site is updated almost daily to keep members as up-to-date as possible, on a wide range of topics of interest. Members are encouraged to set the site as their Home Page. Recently updated pages include the Conferences & CME, as well as Practice Management (located under Members) and the Home Page!

The LAFP magazine, Louisiana Family Doctor, is published quarterly and mailed in March, June, September and December.  Typical subject matter includes features on sports medicine, healthcare legislation, medical journal reviews as well as a scope of other topics that affect today's family physicians.  The magazine also serves as a vehicle for LAFP to communicate important dates, partnerships, conferences, opportunities and other news. The Editorial Board welcomes contributions to include in the magazine. If you have an idea for an article that might be of interest to readers, please consider submitting it for publication. Please note that publication preference is given to articles that are either authored or co-authored by a family physician. Your article may be eligible for CME credits!
The LAFP Weekly Family Medicine Update is an LAFP membership service intended to provide timely family medicine information to your e-mail inbox every Tuesday. It contains important news about healthcare legislation, important dates, partnerships, conference opportunities and other member news. The current distribution of the update is approximately 1,500. Subscription to the weekly newsletter is provided to all  members as a member benefit. Non-members can request a subscription by visiting the News and Publications section of the website and subscribing. We welcome your suggestions and encourage you to forward this newsletter to other family physicians. LAFP is committed to being the information resource for family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students in Louisiana.
The LAFP occasionally sends e-blast announcements to the membership during the legislative session or to make a conference announcement. You may also receive an e-blast in regards to important issue facing Family Medicine. If you receive an e-blast, please read it as it is considered a “need to know” announcement.
