Eligibility Requirements

 
The LAFP is one of the largest specialty associations in Louisiana with over 1,500 members. By joining the LAFP, you will be able to see first hand Family Medicine in Louisiana and what it is all about. Become a student member of the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians, and find out if family medicine is right for you. No obligations. The following are the criteria for all student members of the LAFP and the AAFP.


 
 

Eligibility- Students enrolled in allopathic or osteopathic medical schools that are approved by appropriate U.S. accrediting institutions as defined by the AAFP Commission on Education.

Privileges- May have floor at Assembly. (Duly-elected student delegates to the Congress have additional privileges.)

Term of Membership- Terminates upon graduation from medical school.

Continuing Study Requirements- None

AAFP Student Membership Dues- Student membership is FREE for medical students who are enrolled in a Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or an American Osetopathic Association's Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOA COCA) accredited medical school.

General Membership Information- Applications for student and resident membership are approved at the national level, subject to AAFP Bylaws. National headquarters completes enrollment. Transfers from one classification to another must be approved by the LAFP. If all membership requirements are met, membership is continued on an annual basis, unless notification is received from the member.

International Medical Students- For students attending an international medical school, the AAFP offers a membership option tailored to meet your specific need. To apply, please complete and submit an online AAFP Student membership application or you may download, print, complete and submit an AAFP Student membership application. Please indicate your medical school name and address, as well as completing your contact information as indicated on the form.

International Student Membership Dues- International student dues are $35 annually.
