Information on Coding from the AAFP

CMS has released the final HIPAA-mandated code set implementation date for the International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) as October 1, 2015.

Note: CMS announced in July 2015 that it will grant a one-year grace period for the ICD-10 transition. This means that while the implementation date is still October 1, Medicare claims will not be denied based on which diagnosis code was selected as long as the physician submits an ICD-10 code from an appropriate family of codes.
