The Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians cordially invites you to attend a CME presentation titled, “Recognizing and Preventing Social Engineering in Health Care.”
Learning Objectives
- Identify the most common types of social engineering attacks targeting health care organizations, including phishing, smishing, vishing, quishing and business email compromise.
- Recognize key psychological manipulation tactics used by attackers – such as urgency, authority, fear and appeals to helpfulness – and how these appear in real-world health care scenarios.
- Apply practical strategies such as the SLAM method (Sender, Links, Attachments, Message) and verification procedures to evaluate suspicious communications and prevent successful attacks.
- Describe appropriate response steps when a potential social engineering attempt is detected, including reporting, verification through official channels and promoting a no-blame security culture within the practice.

Program Faculty
Ravi Bakshi, MS, CISSP
TMF Health Quality Institute
Ravi Bakshi, MS, CISSP, is a cybersecurity analyst with TMF Health Quality Institute, where he supports internal security operations and develops cybersecurity education programs for health care organizations across the Southcentral CMS QIN-QIO (Region 5). His responsibilities include threat monitoring and analysis, vulnerability management and assisting with incident response efforts that enhance organizational security and resilience.
In his external role, Mr. Bakshi creates and delivers practical cybersecurity training designed for small- and medium-sized health care practices, with a focus on social engineering, security awareness and strengthening day-to-day defensive practices in clinical settings.
Mr. Bakshi previously worked in technology risk management with EY and served as a Cybersecurity Teaching Assistant at The University of Texas at Austin. He earned a Master of Science in Cybersecurity from The University of Texas at San Antonio and holds Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and CompTIA SecurityX credentials.
CME Accreditation
The AAFP has reviewed 2026 Monthly Webinar/Grand Rounds Series and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit. Terms of approval is from 1/20/2026 to 12/23/2026. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
