Learning Objectives

  1. Review the current diagnostic criteria and recommended clinical approach for evaluating suspected Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
  2. Discuss the appropriate use, interpretation, and limitations of Antinuclear Antibody Testing in the diagnosis of autoimmune disease.
  3. Identify urgent and emergent complications of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus that require prompt recognition and escalation of care.
  4. Outline initial management strategies and evidence-based treatment considerations for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in the primary care setting.
  5. Compare and contrast two patient presentations of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus to illustrate the variability of clinical manifestations.

Tucker Madden, MD
Bogalusa Family Medicine Residency Program

Tucker Madden, MD is a faculty member in the Louisiana State University Rural Family Medicine Residency Program in Bogalusa, LA. He has been a Louisiana boy his entire life. Dr. Madden grew up in the small, north Louisiana town of Saline. He graduated from Louisiana Tech with a nursing degree and then attended LSUHSC-New Orleans for medical school, where he participated in the rural track. He then completed his family medicine residency in Lake Charles. He began working on the Northshore in 2023 and gradually increased his time in Bogalusa until he started as full-time faculty in 2025. He enjoys practicing a broad scope of family medicine, including endoscopy and a variety of in-office procedures. In his free time, he enjoys playing music and spending time with his family of six that somehow keeps growing.

Josiah Cole, MD
Bogalusa Family Medicine Residency Program

Josiah Cole, MD is a second-year resident in the LSU Rural Family Medicine Residency program in Bogalusa. He is originally from Western Pennsylvania, and graduated from Slippery Rock University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, before going to medical school at Temple University in Philadelphia. Along the way, he has also been a janitor, dockworker, missionary, and delivered packages and hospital linens. He enjoys spending time with friends, eating Louisiana food, and sleeping as much as possible.

Gloria Ogunlade, MD
Bogalusa Family Medicine Residency Program

Gloria Ogunlade, MD, is a first-year resident in the LSU Rural Family Medicine Residency Program in Bogalusa, Louisiana. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria, followed by her medical degree from Windsor University School of Medicine in Saint Kitts and Nevis. She also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Liberty University in Virginia, strengthening her focus on preventive medicine and population health. Dr. Ogunlade is passionate about preventive care and committed to improving patient outcomes through compassionate, patient-centered practice. Her interests include health promotion, disease prevention, rural medicine and community-based care. Outside of medicine, Dr. Ogunlade enjoys cooking, baking, journaling, creative writing, and gospel music. She also values spending time with her family, which remains an important source of balance and support in her personal and professional life.

  1. Differentiate infectious pneumonia from immune checkpoint inhibitor–associated pneumonitis based on clinical presentation, imaging findings, and treatment history.
  2. Identify key diagnostic strategies for evaluating respiratory symptoms in oncology patients receiving immunotherapy, including appropriate laboratory and radiographic assessment.
  3. Apply current guideline recommendations for grading and treating immune checkpoint inhibitor toxicities in hospitalized and ambulatory patients.

Dr. Ashton Says, a native of Starks, Louisiana, earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is currently a first-year Family Medicine resident at the Memorial LSU–New Orleans Family Medicine Residency Program in Lake Charles.

Dr. Says was drawn to family medicine by his desire to care for patients across all stages of life. He has a strong passion for rural medicine and is committed to serving communities with limited access to healthcare.

Dr. Tuan Pham is a board-certified Family Medicine physician, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, and core faculty member of the Memorial LSU–New Orleans Family Medicine Residency Program. He earned his medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Shreveport and completed his residency at the Memorial/LSUHSC Family Medicine Residency Program, where he served as Chief Resident from 2003–2004.

Dr. Pham is deeply committed to patient care and medical education and is known for his infectious enthusiasm for learning and dedication to teaching future physicians.

As a member of the LAFP, you are encouraged to, attend and participate in the LAFP's 2026 General Assembly, which will convene on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 1:00 pm. The General Assembly will be held in conjunction with LAFP's 79th Annual Assembly and Exhibition at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, FL.

2026 Call For Resolutions

LAFP members may present resolutions for debate which set the direction for the Academy in the coming year. Any LAFP member can submit a resolution for vote. If you wish to submit a resolution, it must be submitted, in writing, to Ragan LeBlanc, Executive Vice President of the LAFP at least thirty (30) days prior to the General Assembly (No later than June 24, 2026). Resolutions cannot be submitted from the floor except by an affirmative vote of two-thirds of the members of the General Assembly present and voting.

Any resolution submitted from the floor and accepted for presentation must be submitted in writing to the Speaker of the General Assembly, Dr. Derek Anderson. To learn more about writing a resolution, or to complete form, please visit the LAFP website at www.lafp.org. Remember, the deadline to submit resolutions to the LAFP is no later than June 24, 2026.

Bylaws and Amendments to Bylaws

Any five or more members may propose bylaws or amendments of bylaws. Such proposals must be submitted to Ragan LeBlanc, LAFP's Executive Vice President, at least sixty (60) days prior to any regular or special meeting of the General Assembly, and notice shall be given to all members at least thirty (30) days prior to the meeting at which the proposals are to be voted upon.

An affirmative vote of at least two-thirds of the members present and voting shall constitute adoption. Amendments shall take effect immediately upon adoption unless otherwise specified.
