BR Laf March1 Grand Rounds 01Not only was it a packed house but a packed agenda for the Baton Rouge Lafayette Area Grand Rounds and Member District Social. Over 50 Active and resident members enjoyed dinner and two educational presentations at Ruffino’s on the River in Lafayette on Thursday, March 1, 2023.

Julie Savoy, an attorney with the Gachassin Law Firm, gave an overview of medical malpractice and tips to minimize risks to avoid litigation. Mrs. Savoy has been an attorney with the Gachassin firm since 2002. Prior to her career as an attorney, she was a registered nurse. Her practice includes medical malpractice defense, health care risk management, and professional licensure matters.

Valeria Soegaard Garcia, MD, PGY-3 with the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program followed with a case review, “ Finally Finding the Zebra: An Atypical Finding for a Common Complaint”. The case reviewed an unusual finding of tenosynovial giant cell tumor in a patient who initially presented with complaints of backpain.

The LAFP was honored to confer the Degree of Fellow to Creighton E. Shute DO, FAAFP during Grand Rounds. Vincent Shaw, MD, FAAFP led the convocation ceremony and presented Dr. Shute with his certificate on behalf of the AAFP.

The LAFP also honors members who reach milestones in their membership with a commemorative pin denoting the number of years of membership and a certificate.  Two members were honored:
