Louisiana Legislative Champion of Family Medicine Award
This award commends exceptional individual leadership to members of the Louisiana Legislature and/or Administration staff.

AAFP Awards


Congressional Champion of Family Medicine Award
This award is given to recognize members of Congress and Congressional and/or Administration staff who have demonstrated exceptional leadership on advancing public policy that promotes the value of family medicine and primary care to individuals, families, and our health care system. It commends exceptional individual leadership. Recipients are typically involved in the legislative/public policy field.

Executive Legacy Award
This award recognizes retiring chapter executives who have a minimum of 10 years of service to the chapter in the executive position.

Honorary Membership
Designated by the Congress of Delegates for persons of distinction who have rendered outstanding service to the AAFP or the medical profession, or for distinguished members of the AAFP who have retired from practice. Honorary members shall be entitled to the privilege of the floor of the Assembly but shall not be entitled to vote, and they shall pay no dues or admission fee and shall have no right, title or interest in any of the property of the Academy. Constituent chapters may not confer honorary membership but may propose candidates for honorary membership to the AAFP.

John G. Walsh Award for Lifetime Contributions to Family Medicine
This award honors those individuals whose dedication and effective leadership has furthered the development of family medicine. It recognizes long-term dedication, rather than any single significant contribution, and effective leadership toward furthering the development of family medicine. Designed to be the highest honor presented by the AAFP, with the exception of honorary membership. The award will not necessarily be granted on a regular basis, but will be awarded at the discretion of the Board.

President's Award
This award honors exemplary dedication to the improvement of health care through the advancement of the objectives and purposes of the AAFP and/or for extraordinary support and assistance to the AAFP President during his/her presidential year. May be conferred annually at the discretion by the President. The award is not restricted to members of the AAFP, nor physicians.
