Stay Connected while pursuing Family Medicine Residency
Transitional membership is intended to keep medical school graduates connected with their AAFP network and resources as they pursue family medicine residency. Transitional members benefit from access to clinical, practice and career resources, are invited to participate in efforts to strengthen the voice of family physicians through advocacy initiatives and receive exclusive member products and discounts.
Transitional members have a voice in AAFP reference committees but are not entitled to hold AAFP office.
Eligibility
- Graduates of allopathic or osteopathic medical school that is (a) accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the American Osteopathic Association's Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOA COCA), or (b) listed as operational in the then-current edition of the World Directory of Medical Schools, who have not yet entered an ACGME- or AOA-approved residency.
- Eligibility for transitional membership will terminate on December 31 of the second full calendar year following the year in which you graduated from an allopathic or osteopathic medical school or upon the member’s earlier enrollment in a residency program
LAFP Membership
LAFP membership is unified, which means that members are required to belong to the national AAFP and to the LAFP chapter. The AAFP has a chapter for each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Uniformed Services, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
LAFP membership makes it convenient for LAFP members to access relevant information and focused resources in Louisiana. The LAFP offers local opportunities to network, mentor, volunteer, take a leadership role, and get involved in the LAFP/AAFP.
