President

Dr. Lisa Arceneaux Casey is a Louisiana born and Louisiana educated Family Medicine Physician. She was raised in Metairie, LA and attended high school at St. Mary’s Dominican High School, graduating in 1996. She completed her undergraduate studies in Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology in 2000 at the University of New Orleans. Dr. Casey received her medical doctorate from LSU Health Sciences Center in 2005. She then matriculated through the East Jefferson General Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program. Following her graduation in 2008, Dr. Casey served as a faculty member for the residency until 2014 when she took over as Program Director. She served in this position until 2021 when she returned to clinical practice. Since then, she now serves as Ochsner/STHS Family Medicine Residency Program Director. 
 
Dr. Casey is board-certified in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine and serves as a board member on the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (LAFP), the Medical Association of Southeast Louisiana (MASELA), and Jefferson Parish Medical Society (JPMS).  Her professional interests include obesity, resident education, and legislative advocacy. In her free time, Dr. Casey enjoys spending time with her two children, traveling, reading murder mysteries and playing board games.

President-Elect

Emilio A. Russo, MD currently serves as Department Chair and Marie Lahasky Professor of Family Medicine, Associate Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, Program Director of the LSU Rural Family Medicine Residency Program, and Chair of the LSU Health Science Center Committee on International Educational Experience.  Amidst these diverse leadership roles, Dr. Russo divides his days between administrative responsibilities, mentoring faculty and house staff toward artful medicine and health equity, and caring for his patients as a full-spectrum family physician in a rural practice.

As an inaugural member of the Rural Scholars Track, Dr. Russo graduated from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans in 2005 and completed his residency at the Family Medicine Spokane Rural Training Track in 2008. Prior to joining the residency in Bogalusa in 2013, he spent 5 years practicing in vulnerable New Orleans neighborhoods as part of a developing network of LSU clinics post-Katrina and as a member of the National Health Service Corps.  Dr. Russo’s professional interests include family medicine’s role in reducing healthcare inequity amongst vulnerable populations, global health engagement locally and abroad, and innovation in rural healthcare delivery, research, and medical education.

While at home, Dr. Russo spends his time with his beautiful wife as well as their four children—Giovanni, Mia, Liliana, and Luca. He enjoys reading, cooking, soccer, and playing the guitar.

bridges headshot 01Richard Bridges, MD, FAAFP
Vice-President

Dr. Bridges is from Amite, Louisiana and is currently employed at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, LA. Dr. Bridges received his bachelor’s degree in microbiology and a Masters of Natural Sciences from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He then completed a bachelor’s in Medical Technologies from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. He graduated from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine and completed his residency in family medicine at the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program in 2014.

Dr. Bridges is an active member of American Academy of Family Physicians, Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (where he serves as Vice-President and Director of Legislative Affairs) and Louisiana State Medical Society. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. In his free time he enjoys LSU sporting events, cooking, hunting, fishing, and most of all spending time with his wife and two young daughters.

Secretary

Dr. O’Neal is the Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency in Monroe. Before transitioning to academic medicine, she enjoyed working in the private sector for 2 decades. Dr. O’Neal has also served as a full-time Associate Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, Emergency Department, core faculty for Department of Family Medicine, Assistant Clerkship Director for the third-year medical students, and Associate Program Director, Department of Family Medicine. 

Dr. O’Neal has 3 children. Jamie is the oldest and lives in Lafayette with her husband, Myles. Her son, Frankie is in the military, stationed in North Carolina. Her youngest is Lauren, who lives in West Monroe and is pursuing a degree in healthcare administration. She has 3 grandchildren, Jude, Hunter and Ava. 

Her hobbies include horseback riding, especially dressage. She and her daughter, Lauren, share a beautiful American Paint Horse named George. George has been shown in Hunter classes and both competed in Schooling Dressage Shows in South Louisiana for several years. Dr. O’Neal has a love of travel with Antarctica, Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands as the “coolest” places on her list of destinations visited.

Bryan Picou SrBryan Picou, MD, FAAFP
Treasurer

Bryan Picou, MD, is Family Physician who has been practicing in Natchitoches since 1988 as owner of the Family Medical Clinic of Natchitoches. Dr. Picou attended medical school at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA, and completed his residency at E.A. Conway Hospital in Monroe, LA, where he served as Chief Resident in from 1987-1988. He presently serves as a Preceptor for LSU Medical School New Orleans, Tulane Medical School and LSUHSC-Shreveport. He accepts students at all levels with in these schools. Dr. Picou has been a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians since 1985 and received the AAFP Degree of Fellow in 1996. Dr. Picou has served on the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians' Operations Committee as well as was a founding member of the LaFamPac. In 2006, Dr. Picou was elected as LAFP President and in 2007, served as LAFP Foundation President. Dr. Picou is presently a Delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates.

Immediate Past President

Dr. Shaw, A native of Opelousas, received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Southern University A&M College and his Medical Degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his Family Medicine Residency training at the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program, and also completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He has been a faculty member for the Family Medicine Residency Program for 13 years and currently serves as the Program Director for Baton Rouge General’s Family Medicine Residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship Programs. Board Certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine, Dr. Shaw also serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve and is a team physician for Southern University and LSU.
