As the federal government shutdown continues, we know that many family physicians are facing significant challenges, both in and out of the exam room. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is collecting firsthand accounts of how this disruption is affecting your patients, your practice, and your ability to serve your community. Your voice is vital.

Please take a few minutes to share your story.

Why the AAFP is asking:

  • To document real-world impacts of the shutdown on family medicine practices across the country.
  • To inform advocacy efforts on behalf of family physicians and our patients.
  • To amplify your experiences and concerns, wherever you are working in practice.

What you’ll be asked:

  • A description of how the shutdown has affected your practice or patient care.
  • Whether you’d like to be contacted for additional follow-up and provide contact information (optional).
  • Approximate time: about 5 minutes.

What you can expect:

  • The AAFP will compile responses and share summary findings (with no identifying details unless you give permission) with policymakers, federal agencies, and our members.
  • Your story will help shape the AAFP’s advocacy and policy work to safeguard family medicine and patient care.
  • The AAFP may reach out to you if you give consent and provide contact information in the survey.

The Academy appreciates your willingness to share what may be a difficult or stressful time. Your insight matters and helps ensure that family physicians’ voices are heard when decisions are being made.

Thank you for your time and for all you do for your patients and communities!
