The LAFP is excited to recognize Bradon Weeks, DO, as our June Member of the Month. Dr. Weeks is in practice at Ochsner Health New Orleans. Dr. Weeks grew up in Houma and credits his parents, Russell and Jamie Weeks, for helping him through his foundational years and always encouraging him to do his best.
Originally, Dr. Weeks planned on practicing veterinary medicine, and majored in Animal Science at LSU. During his time at LSU, he participated in multiple Baptist Collegiate Ministry Mission trips to Mexico and was always on the medical team. That combined with relief work after Hurricane Katrina steered him to pivot to "people medicine" instead of vet school. He received his medical degree and Master of Public Health from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Davie, Florida, in 2011 and went on to complete his internship and residency at the University of Texas at Austin. After working in a Brooklyn, NY community clinic for 2 years after residency, he moved back to Louisiana and started working at Ochsner Health.
We asked Dr. Weeks if he remembers his personal statement from medical school and how that compares to where he is today as a family physician. He stated, “I actually was able to find my med school personal statement and thankfully I have not strayed too much from my lofty aspirations. Here is a nice excerpt: A doctor can have a role as not only someone who treats a patient or case, but someone who treats the whole person. They can have an active role in and see the changes in a patient's life.’ He continued, “I do hope to participate in future global health and perhaps some medical outreach trips in the future which I spoke of in my personal statement.”
When asked what one word would describe his practice. He stated, “approachable”. He continued, “I continue to be humbled that I am allowed to play a part in their lives to help them live healthier, fuller lives. My favorite aspect of family medicine continues to be the relationship that I build with my patients over time.”
Dr. Weeks now lives in New Orleans with his wife and 2 children. He sees patients at Ochsner Baptist where he serves as Associate Medical Director of Primary Care covering 5 clinics in the New Orleans area. He helps supervise 40+ physicians and APPs. Away from medicine, he enjoys gardening, and he recently helped start a community/employee garden at Ochsner Baptist. Dr. Weeks’ biggest hobby is drawing or playing sports with my 5-year-old son or unicorns with my 3-year-old daughter. During his 4 years at LSU, Dr. Weeks played the trumpet in the Golden Band from Tigerland. He still tries to play music with his latest goal of learning Cajun accordion.
