Applications for the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Foundation Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute (ELI) are now open. This yearlong opportunity provides leadership skills training for family medicine residents entering their first or second year and medical students entering their second, third, or fourth year. The application period ends Friday, March 1.

Thirty scholars will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend the Family Medicine Leads ELI and the AAFP’s National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students (National Conference) Thursday-Saturday, August 1-3, in Kansas City, MO. Scholars choose one of three leadership development tracks: Policy & Public Health Leadership, Personal & Practice Leadership, and Philanthropic & Mission-Driven Leadership. Following the workshop, participants work with a family physician mentor to develop a project related to their track of study.

Projects are evaluated by family physicians, with a project award given to the top three projects in each track. Those winners receive an additional $1,000 scholarship to return to the following year’s National Conference. One project award winner in each track will win the Best Project Award and will present their project while at National Conference. Those winners of the Best Project Award will also receive an additional $3,000 scholarship to participate in a special experience related to their track.

Visit the AAFP Foundation website to learn more about the program and to apply.
