Inspired by successful chapter-led initiatives and established as a national observance by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Congress of Delegates, Family Medicine Week is a time to celebrate the essential role family physicians play in the health and well-being of communities across the country. State chapters of the AAFP are proud to be at the heart of this celebration, helping shine a light on the incredible work of family physicians and the difference they make every day.
This year’s theme, “Called to Family Medicine,” celebrates members like you who answered a call to a specialty rooted in relationships, whole-person care, compassion, and service. Behind every family physician is a unique journey — the people, experiences, and moments that inspired you to choose family medicine and continue to shape the care you provide today.
During Family Medicine Week, we want to celebrate you and your “why.” What first called you to family medicine? Was there a person or experience that inspired your career? What continues to make you proud to be a family physician?
We invite you to share your story with us! Email a short response to
Most importantly, thank you. Thank you for answering the call to family medicine. Thank you for showing up for your patients, your families, and your communities. Thank you for the countless ways you advocate, lead, teach, listen, and care.
