The FMIG at LSU Health New Orleans has been very busy promoting the specialty of Family Medicine to the students at LSU Health New Orleans.
The members of the FMIG requested a Grand Rounds presentation as a topic for a meeting. Dorian Joye O’Sullivan, MD, LSU Health graduate and current first-year resident at DePaul FMRP, hosted the presentation she led at an LAFP Member Social and Grand Rounds in the Fall. The title of the presentation was, “Encountering Patients with Complex Needs”. Dr. O’Sullivan incorporated a complex patient case presentation from the perspective of a first-year resident. She offered valuable insight on how she, as a new physician, handled her office visit with a medically complex patient. During the presentation, she also provided “pearls of wisdom” from physician mentors that she uses for each patient encounter to helps her organize her patient assessment, develop a plan of care and see and hear each patient.
Lunch was provided by the LAFP Foundation. LAFP staff member, Lee Ann Albert, provided an overview of the LAFP and encouraged students to join the Academy.
